The Time for Atonement
by Linda Grant
An article appraising
the case of child-killer Myra Hyndley who is still in prison despite completing
her sentence. Grant argues that as a woman she attracts both support and victimisation
by the tabloid press, and although the writer considers she is no longer a
threat to society, Hyndley has never shown signs of remorse, offered an explanation,
and has effectively 'forgiven herself'. The image utilises the infamous police
portrait of the killer - which has effectively frozen her in time.
