YESTERDAYS PAPERS JOE MAGEE

IMAGES COMMISSIONED BY THE GUARDIAN (UK) NEW YORK TIMES (US) AND LIBERATION (FR) 1996-99
EXHIBITION: MUD DOCK, EXETER, ENGLAND OCTOBER 2000 - JUNE 2001

Yesterdays Papers is a collection of images by Joe Magee which were commissioned by The Guardian, The New York Times and Libération between 1996 and 1999. The images illustrated current political issues. Of the 20 images in this exhibition, 12 were produced for Linda Grant's opinionated and incisive weekly full-page column in the Guardian's G2 (for which over 60 were published in total). The images took around 4 hours each to produce, which included coming up with an idea. Over a hundred in total were commissioned by the newspapers in question and the 20 exhibited here have been chosen for both the success of the visuals and the interesting stories and issues which inspired them. I would like to thank: In particular, Roger Browning (Guardian). I would also like to thank Nicholas Blechman (New York Times) and Dan Torres (Libération). Thanks too, to all the writers, especially Linda Grant.
