| JOE MAGEE Contact Email < periphery [at] periphery . co . uk > Joe Magee is an artist and filmmaker who began his career making images for newspapers, becoming a regular contributor to international publications such as The Guardian, Libération, New York Times and Newsweek, having upwards of two thousand images published. In tandem with this he has developed a personal practice encompassing a range of traditional and electronic media, especially print making and moving image work, experimenting with animation, video and interactive art. These works, supported by a series of awards from Arts Council of England and UK Film Council, have shown widely at galleries and film festivals internationally, including London, Edinburgh, Tampere and Cannes, winning several prizes. Magee twice presented work at the International Symposium of Electronic Arts (Japan, Liverpool) as well as at Watershed, the Institute of Contemporary Arts, the Victoria and Albert Museum, Chapter and the National Portrait Gallery. He has artworks in the permanent collections of University of the Arts London and University of Bath. Magee undertakes educational work in the UK and overseas, including visiting lectureships at Manchester School of Art and University of the West of England. In 2008 he ran filmmaking workshops in Vietnam and Singapore for The British Council. He has also been engaged in a series of collaborations with British comedian and actor Bill Bailey including large-scale video art and multimedia works for Bill’s 2007 UK arena tour, culminating at Wembley. In 2008, Magee's substantial body of work became the successful focus of a special issue of WERK (No.16), a limited edition arts publication based in Singapore.
