| JOE MAGEE Contact Email < periphery @ periphery . co . uk > Joe Magee is an artist and film-maker with a studio in Bristol (UK). He began his career making images for newspapers, becoming a regular contributor to international publications such as The Guardian, Libération, New York Times and Newsweek. Alongside this he has developed a personal practice culminating in a series of exhibitions of work at galleries around the UK. This practice encompasses a range of traditional and electronic media especially print making and moving image works - experimention with animation, video and interactive art. These works, supported by a series of awards from Arts Council of England and UK Film Council, have shown widely internationally at galleries and film festivals including London, Edinburgh, Tampere and Cannes, winning several prizes. Magee has twice presented work at ISEA (Japan, Liverpool). PAST PROJECTS AND EVENTS 2008 Joe Magee Moving Image Retrospective La Salle College of Art, Singapore Film Festival, April 2008 2008 Current Project I have recently been given an award by Arts Council of England to produce a new body of work - including print works and moving image. The work explores nature as a metaphor for human thought processes - and how these processes relate to digital and genetic manipulation. I have a long standing interest in memetics (cultural transmission as virus) and human communication. 2007 The Waters Prevailed Animated film, projected large-scale onto Bristol Council House Commissioned by Watershed Media Centre 2007 Tinselworm Large-scale video art and multi-media collaboration with performer and comedian, Bill Bailey.
